Description
The dovecot, likely dating to around 1752, is of unusual interest due to its circular form. It is constructed primarily of boulder, with red sandstone dressings closely spaced throughout. The joints are held together with numerous nails, which are tapered and sharply intaken at two rat courses. The structure is capped by a conical slated roof that is truncated by an oculus (circular opening). Stone and slate boxes are incorporated into the roof. Within the dovecot, remnants of woodwork, including a ladder, are present, potentially relating to a former potence (a device for raising and lowering pigeons). It originally served as part of Huntly Lodge Farm, which was built in the 1752-1757 period but has undergone alterations since.
