Description
The North Range at Pirriesmill is a building from the mid-19th century, featuring a single storey and a rectangular plan located to the north of a courtyard. The exterior is constructed from coursed rubble and is harled on the east gable.
On the southwest elevation, the design is asymmetrical with a doorway located in the third bay from the left, accompanied by a window to the right and a single window in the penultimate bay to the left, while the bays to the right remain blank. The southeast elevation has a broad opening with a timber lintel at the centre. The northeast elevation is also asymmetrical, showcasing three windows on the right side, with the bays to the left left blank. The northwest elevation is harled and features a single window in the centre.
The building predominantly has timber-framed windows, although many have broken glass. The roof is piended and gabled, covered with slate, and features lead and stone ridges, along with coped skews on the northeast side and granite ridge stacks.
The Central Range, likely built later in the 19th century but possibly incorporating elements from the earlier to mid-19th century, is a single storey and attic structure with a near H-plan layout. The walls are made of random rubble with long and short dressings.
The southeast elevation is near-symmetrical with three bays, where a gabled bay is advanced to the centre. It has a segmental-arched opening with a 20th-century sliding corrugated door at ground level, and a window opening set in the gablehead, topped with a spherical stone finial. The left and right returns are blank, and the bays to the left and right are also blank but feature small skylights in the attic floor.
The northeast elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled bay advanced to the left, featuring a segmental-arched opening at ground level and a window above, also topped with a spherical stone finial. Recessed bays to the right have irregular openings at ground level and small openings above, and the roof sweeps down over the advanced bay to the outer right, with skylights in the attic floor.
The northwest elevation is symmetrical with a gabled design, featuring an infilled doorway at the centre of the ground floor and a window above on the first floor. The roof sweeps down over lean-to additions on the left and right, each with broad openings at the centre, showing evidence of sliding doors.
The southwest elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled bay advanced to the right and the roof sweeping down over this advanced bay to the outer left, along with skylights in the attic floor.
The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and features stone ridges, stone skews, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 2000.
