Description

New Bridge in Castleton, built between 1802 and 1805, is a high single span buttressed bridge. It is constructed from rubble with tooled rubble dressings around the arch ring and the parapet cope. The bridge features winged abutments, substantial stepped buttresses on the east side, and bulky flying buttresses on the west side that flank the arch ring. The structure is heavily coated with modern harl, and the approximate span of the bridge is 13 meters.
