Description
The King Edward Primary School is a low, single-story rubble building dating from 1766. Originally comprising a byre, school, and schoolhouse, it has two windows on its south elevation and two on the north. A loft entrance is located in the west gable, now blocked. The west gable features a blocked and segmental arch with a swept roof, which originally served as the principal entrance to the byre. The former byre section has a slated roof, while the school and schoolhouse have a corrugated-iron roof. The school was originally thatched, with the corrugated-iron being installed in 1952. The schoolroom formerly had a clay floor and later served as a shop after a new school was built in the area; it is now used as a store. Further details are documented in James Godsman’s KING-EDWARD, ABERDEENSHIRE (1952), pages 336-7.
