Description

The Manse of Lumphanan is a large house, originally built in 1782 and significantly extended in 1828 and 1869. It was designed by James Thomson (of Crathes) with revisions by George Spark. The building is a two-storey, largely harled structure of an irregular plan, with the original 1782 section said to have been three storeys high. It is described as picturesque. The listing acknowledges the building's group value and applies to both the interior and exterior. A circular fontbowl of uncertain date is located in the garden. Historic records, including contracts from the Aberdeen Journal in April 1869 and Heritors' Records, detail the building’s history.
