Description
Trinity Church, located on Seafield Street in Whitehills, was constructed by Alexander Ross in 1879 as the Trinity United Presbyterian Church and was moved to its current site in 1925-1926. This Gothic-style church features a rectangular shape with a six-bay long street elevation made of dark rubble, accented by contrasting tooled and polished ashlar sandstone dressings.
The church has a projecting buttressed and gabled porch at the southeast corner, which includes a pointed-headed entrance and a plank door fitted with ornate cast-iron hinges. A slim two-stage angle clock tower is attached to the porch, topped with a conical slate roof. The front is illuminated by five pointed-headed windows, while the west gable boasts a large geometric traceried window. The north gable features a shaped pointed-headed window enclosing a hexafoil light, flanked by narrow side lights and adorned with coloured glazing. Lattice-pane glazing is used in other windows, and the building is topped with an apex cross and a slate roof with a tiled ridge. A single-storey vestry extends from the rear.
Inside, the church has a lofty interior with a timber braced rafter roof. The east wall features a cusped panelled pulpit at its centre, complete with a cusped and canopied backboard. The Communion table has a cusped panelled face, and the seating consists of plain pine pews.
