Description
This is a railway bridge built between 1852 and 1854 as part of the Great North of Scotland Railway. It features a single, semi-elliptical skew arch constructed with raised v-jointed voussoirs. The bridge is supported by battered buttresses featuring pulvinated rustication. A balustraded parapet sits over the arch, incorporating square balusters. The detailing of this bridge, and a similar one at Wardhouse, is more elaborate than other bridges on the line, and may have been carried out by William Smith, who was Alexander Gibb's brother-in-law. Sir Benjamin Hall Blyth was consultant for the railway, but Alexander Gibb was responsible for the detail work.
