Description

The building is a schoolhouse, dated 1850, with a slightly later schoolhouse to the southwest, possibly designed by A and W Reid from Elgin. It features heavily pointed squared and coursed whinstone rubble with droved ashlar dressings and mullions. The major openings have a bracketed cornice.

The school is a single-storey structure with four bays that has been significantly altered and extended, although the latter alterations are not included in the listing. It has a projecting gabled porch with a ball finial located at the second bay, a window with a date plaque above it, and a door situated in the re-entrant angle. There are 20th-century ranges behind the main building, and the enlarged sash and case windows have a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has ashlar coped skews and bracketed skewputts.

The schoolhouse is a mid to late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house with an L-plan layout. The northwest elevation features a large gabled stone porch with a finial that projects at the center. There is a window facing the road with an arrow slit opening above it and a door on the right return. Ground floor windows flank the porch, while the first floor has two windows that break the eaves in gabled dormerheads, which also have blind arrow slits and ball finials.

At the rear, there is a single-storey service wing with a modern harled addition and a conservatory. The sash and case windows have a twelve-pane glazing pattern. The roof is again covered with grey slates, with ashlar coped skews and moulded skewputts, and there are corniced ashlar paired diamond end stacks.
