Description

The Gannochy Bridge is an early 18th-century structure, with the original section dated 1732. It is located partly within Angus District, Edzell Parish. The original bridge features a single, three-rib arch with a 52-foot span, characterized by stepped moulding. In 1795, the bridge was widened, a work performed without the use of ribs and employing a simpler design. The initial construction was undertaken by James Black, a tenant of Edzell parish, and the subsequent widening was commissioned by Lord Adam Gordon and Hon William Maule. New Statistical Account, volume xi, page 118, provides additional information.
