Description
The Loups Bridge is a footbridge likely dating to the 1830s or 1840s, spanning a deep gorge over the River North Esk. The structure consists of two spans supported by a tall, central pier constructed from bull-faced stone, which itself rises from the river rocks. Suspension rods radiate from arched wrought-iron work located at both the central pier and the abutments, connecting directly to the bridge decking. The bridge is currently derelict but retains picturesque qualities. It is situated partly within Angus County, Edzell Parish, and is of a type associated with the Justice of Dundee. No makers’ plate has been found. The statutory address is Loups Suspension Bridge over River North Esk.
