Description

The Bridge of Alvah was built between 1771 and 1773, designed by the Duke of Fife, possibly with Thomas Reid, and constructed by mason James Robertson. This single span bridge features a segmentally arched design that crosses the gorge of the River Deveron. It includes a small room in the west abutment. The bridge is constructed from sneck-harled random rubble and has an ashlar coped parapet, with the abutments splayed. Inside the mural room, there are pointed arched openings, a doorway to the north, a window to the south, a pointed barrel-vault, and a fireplace.
