Description
This is an early to mid-18th century steading, with later alterations and the addition of a bellcote in 1809. It is a single-storey building with an attic, constructed from random rubble with a sneck-harled finish. A doorway on the south side has chamfered reveals and is flanked by a pair of windows, which are likely later additions. An attic window is located in the gable. The south-facing windows are 9-pane sash and case windows. The roof is corrugated iron with concrete skews. An ashlar bellcote, possibly re-used, sits atop the east stack and is dated 1809, bearing the initials JM.
A plan from 1753 depicts Montcoffer House as a two-storey, three-bay structure with two steading ranges to the east. This steading forms the south range of that grouping and is oriented west to east.
