Description
These stables, built in 1850 for Thomas Mackenzie, form part of Drumtochty Castle. They are an H-plan building in a Neo-Tudor style, with a low, two-storey ashlar facade. The front features plain, coped parapets, and a central square tower with a four-centred arch of two splayed orders. Above the arch is a three-light window. The tower has a corbelled and crenellated parapet with a roundel which once housed a clock. A taller, octagonal turret extends from the rear of the tower. Two two-window links connect to advanced wings, each with a gabled front. The windows are hoodmoulded and have two lights. The rear elevation is of plain pinned rubble, with a short central wing. Octagonal, shafted chimneys are present. The roofs are slated, with diamond-paned lantern lights. Originally, the windows were diamond-paned throughout.
