Description

Boynesmill is a house, with the western part dated 1771 and attributed to William Allardes, which has been substantially recast in a cottage style. This includes gabled dormer windows and diagonally-shafted chimneys. A large wing was added to the southeast side around 1835. The original section is rubble-built, while the later addition features red sandstone dressings. A smaller addition was made, and significant alterations occurred internally in 1963-4. The New Statistical Account, volume 12, page 601, contains further details.
