Description

Tillycairn Castle, built around 1550 for Matthew Lumsden, is a four-storey building in an L-plan layout with rounded angles. It features a circular stair tower in the re-entrant angle and angle turrets. The structure is made of boulder rubble with pinnings and has bold corbelling at the top. The ground floor and first floor are vaulted in the jamb. The castle was already in ruins by 1722 and is now roofless but remains fairly complete otherwise.
