Housedale, Dunecht House

Housedale, Dunecht House, features the remains of an 18th century mansion house layout. Only the front wall of the central house remains, which includes a moulded door-piece and a fine cartouche from 1705. The house originally had five windows. There are short quadrant links to the wings; the northern wing, which served as the gardener's house, is a single-storey structure that has been completely reconstructed with jerkin-head gables. The southern wing is also a single-storey with an attic, but it has been badly reconstructed and features a tall roof and porch. A Venetian window survives in the eastern gable. The site includes a two-storey outbuilding dated 1723, which is harled with chamfered margins and has skew putts. There is a large walled garden aligned with the house, and a west gate, also aligned with the house, was created by John Smith around 1820. The garden wall was re-harled in 1967.
