Description
The Old Parish Church in Tyrie, built in 1800, is a rectangular structure made of rough ashlar granite with cherry-cocking. The north wall is blank and constructed of rubble. It features straight skews with skewputts and a birdcage bellcote topped with a ball-finial at the west gable. The south wall originally had two round-headed windows with small square-headed windows on either side. The east window has been raised to match the arched windows. The U-plan gallery has been reduced to a west gallery, and a chancel was formed in 1902-1903 by Wm. Reid from Fraserburgh. Inside, there is a Pieter Seest bell dated 1773. Additionally, there is a Raven Stone within the church, which is a symbol stone made of blue mica schist measuring 3 feet 8 inches by 2 feet 4 inches, featuring an eagle and a two-legged rectangle with hollows and a Z-rod.
