Description

Gannochy is a villa located at 88 Cornhill Road in Aberdeen, designed by Cameron and Watts in 1905. This two-storey and attic building features a two-bay layout and is constructed from tooled coursed grey granite, which is finely finished at the edges. The base course is rough-faced, and there are cill courses at the ground and first floors, along with overhanging eaves.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing a round-arched doorway on the right side of the ground floor. This doorway has a decorative inverted horseshoe surround with keystone detail that bears the tooled initials "JC." It includes a panelled timber door with a dentil carved lintel, flanked by stained glass panels and a semi-circular stained glass fanlight. To the left of the ground floor, there is a canted three-light window. The first floor features a bipartite window on the right, with a tripartite window to the left, and a bipartite window set in a gabled bay on the right side of the attic floor, accompanied by a two-light fanlight on the right.

The east and west elevations are gabled. The north elevation was not visible in 1999. The villa has two-pane timber sash and case windows, a purple grey slate roof with decorative terracotta ridge tiles, and a stone skew with a scrolled skewputt on the west gable. Coped granite gablehead stacks with circular cans are present, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The boundary walls consist of low coped granite walls to the south and a rubble wall to the east, which terminates in a pier to the southeast that features a scrolled cap.
