Description
64 Fonthill Road in Ferryhill, Aberdeen, is a three-storey and basement, three-bay terrace building designed by Duncan McMillan around 1884. It is located on a prominent corner site and constructed from finely finished, tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, featuring a base course and finely finished ground floor, dividing band cornices, an eaves course, and a moulded eaves blocking course.
The west elevation facing Albury Road is asymmetrical. The ground floor on the right has been converted to an office, featuring a plate glass window flanked by doorways on either side. There is a tripartite window in the flanking bay to the left. The first and second floors have windows in the centre and right bays, while the left bay features tripartite windows on both floors. The outer right corner has a curved angle with a plate glass window on the ground floor, tripartite windows on the first and second floors, and a circular drum turret above the eaves blocking course, which includes a quadripartite window and a domed lead roof topped with an ironwork weathervane finial.
The south elevation facing Fonthill Road is also asymmetrical and consists of two bays. It has large plate-glass windows on the ground floor, with steps leading down to the basement, and regular fenestration on the first and second floors above.
The east elevation features an advanced bay on the left with a canted end, large stair windows in the centre with a geometric glazing pattern, and a doorway and windows on the left return. The remainder of this elevation was not visible in 1999.
The north elevation is obscured by an adjoining building. The building predominantly has replacement two-pane timber pivoting windows with a top sash. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a lead ridge. Decorative shouldered and pedimented corniced wallhead stacks with octagonal cans are present, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1999.
