No 12 North Square, Footdee

No 13 North Square in Footdee is a terraced row of eight low, single-storey cottages built between 1808 and 1809 by John Smith. These cottages are arranged in three bays and are located next to a sea wall. They are constructed from coursed and snecked granite rubble, featuring a central doorway for each cottage flanked by windows that are set close to the eaves, all with granite dressings. The roof is low and sweeps down to a blank rear elevation.

The cottages showcase a variety of timber window types, with most being top-opening and some featuring multi-pane glazing. The roofs are predominantly covered with grey Scottish slates, which have a gentle curve on the seaward-facing pitch. There are non-traditional rooflights, and a mix of red brick and rubble ridge stacks, some of which are rendered. Wallhead stacks are present at the gable ends of Nos 8 and 15, along with skews and skewputts. Most of the cottages have clay cans throughout, and the rainwater goods are predominantly made of uPVC.
