Description
Cromwell's Bastion, located on Castlehill in Aberdeen, dates back to 1651-1652 and consists of surviving fragments of a fort built during the Cromwellian period. The structure features a four-sided bastion on the southeast side, with straight wall sections extending to the east and south. It is constructed from rubble and large boulders, topped with later flat coping stones, and has roughly dressed quoins at the angles of the bastion. The bastion is prominently situated to the east of Castle Street, overlooking the Harbour to the south. To the north and west, there is a late 20th century embankment and concrete pavement.
