Description
Trinity Hall, located at 151, 153, and 155 Union Street in Aberdeen, is a former building designed by John and William Smith between 1844 and 1846. This two-storey, five-bay structure features a turreted and castellated Tudor-Gothic style and is now part of a shopping centre established in 2006. The building is constructed of grey granite ashlar and includes decorative string courses and a cornice. It has hoodmoulds over pointed segmental arched window openings that feature simple tracery. The roofline is marked by a stepped, crenellated parapet, which is interrupted by slender hexagonal ogee-domed turrets, with similar clasping turrets at the corners. A wide Tudor-arched opening on the far right leads into the shopping centre.
The interior was not inspected during the 2006 resurvey, but it has been extensively altered to accommodate a former department store. It is believed to contain a timber hammerbeam ceiling and may include fragments of the entrance gateway from the original Trinity Hall built in 1632.
