Description
The Clachan, located at 19-20 Castle Street in Aberdeen, is a possibly late 18th century, four-storey and attic, seven-bay Classical tenement building. The ground floor has been altered for commercial use, and there are projecting wings at the rear of the building. The exterior features grey granite ashlar, with rubble and render on the rear. The front of Nos 19 and 20 is distinguished by channelled Ionic pilasters that separate the openings at the ground level. There are rectangular pend entrance openings that are off-centre, with the one on the far right leading to Peacock's Close. The building has piended canted dormers.
The upper storeys predominantly feature 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the shop on the right has plate glass windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are raised skews. Tall, coped, brick and granite gable stacks complete the structure.
