Description
The pillbox at Tillybrig Cottage on Pimedden Road in Dyce dates from around 1940 and is a well-preserved example of an unusual World War II fortification. It is strategically located on a bridge that overlooks the Inverness railway line. The structure has a polygonal shape with a rectangular entrance projection on the southwest side. It is built from clay bricks with concrete lintels and a concrete roof, featuring horizontal loopholes for defense. Inside, there is a polygonal central pier that supports a ridged concrete roof. The loopholes still show evidence of solid steel internal shutters, along with side guides and pulleys.
