Description

An example of the classic Nissen hut, adapted for hospital use, located immediately south-east of the administration block. A single unit of curved steel frames sheeted with corrugated metal and resting on a concrete base. The road (south west) elevation has plain plywood-sheeted access doors at left and middle. A modern brick pier flanks the left-hand door. Arranged along this facade are six timber window units, most of which are top opening and all of which have timber cills. The doors and windows have small monopitched corrugated metal roofs over. The left and right gables are felt covered and have three sets of timber windows. The rear elevation has double-leaf doors at each end, with windows between similar to front. At middle right, a covered passage connects with a flat roofed modern building at rear. Water pipes also feed into the building to the left of this passage from a tall brick water tank. All the windows are in poor condition and the building is earmarked for demolition by the hospital authorities.
