Description

This war memorial, dating from approximately 1920 to 1925, stands at the junction of Main Street, Belfast Road, and Crossgar Road in Ballynahinch. It is constructed from a grey, granite-like artificial stone, set upon a stepped concrete base.

The memorial's lower portion consists of a square pedestal with a moulded base and cornice. Inscribed blocks on the east, west, and south sides of the base bear the dates '1914-18', while the north side displays '1939-45'. Each side of the pedestal is panelled, with bronze plaques on the north and west sides listing the names of those who fell in both World Wars. Above the cornice is a blocking course with a moulded roundel motif. Above this course rises a tapering obelisk, finished with a pyramidal head.

The memorial was likely erected between 1920 and 1925, with some modifications following the Second World War.
