Description
This is a single-storey, two-bay vernacular house situated 620 metres south of 92 Chapel Road in Killevy, Newry, County Armagh. The house and its associated outbuilding date to around the mid-19th century, specifically between 1840 and 1859, although a building is shown on the 1835 Ordnance Survey map, it doesn't match the current layout until the 1861 edition.
The house is aligned northeast-southwest with its gable facing the road. It has a pitched roof covered in artificial slate, with rounded corners to the slates and cement skews to the gables. A red brick chimney stands on the left gable, with another just off-centre. The walls are whitewashed lime rendered random rubble. The principal, southeast-facing elevation features a windbreak porch with a monopitched slate roof. A timber-sheeted door is set within this porch. Window openings flank the porch; the left window retains a timber lintel, remnants of a two-over-two sliding sash frame, and a stone cill, while the right window has cement-rendered jambs and cills under a timber lintel. The left gable is blank, as is the rear elevation except for one window opening with a timber head and the remains of a one-over-one exposed box sash. The right gable is also blank.
The outbuilding faces northwest toward the house, with its left gable facing the road. It has a pitched roof with natural slates and irregular cement skews to the gables, and walls constructed from random rubble. The principal elevation features a doorway at centre; the left gable is blank, and the rear and right gables are blank save for a small ventilation opening.
The site is enclosed by a random granite rubble wall along the road, containing an infilled well on the inner face. A modern metal gate hangs on circular gate pillars with conical cement copings, providing access. The building was once recorded as derelict, and retains vernacular characteristics.
