Dwelling 290m south of 92 Chapel Road, Killevy, Newry, Co Armagh, BT35 8JY

A lobby entry vernacular house, retaining much of its original fabric and character. Along with its outbuilding to front, random rubble wall to road, gate piers and wrought-iron gate, it forms an attractive group but is not of special interest.

The dwelling is a single storey, two bay lobby entry house aligned roughly east to west with its right gable facing Chapel Road. It has a pitched natural slate roof with a red brick chimney to the centre and a smaller lime-rendered chimney to the left gable. A slightly projecting granite eaves course supports half-round metal rainwater goods. The walls are lime-rendered random rubble.

The principal elevation faces south. Set slightly right of centre is a wind break porch with a natural slate monopitched roof that catslides into the front pitch. The front face has a plain-sheeted timber entrance door. The left and right cheeks of the porch are blank. To either side of the porch is a window opening with a granite cill and the remains of a side-hung timber casement window. The left gable has a window opening set to the right on the apex. The rear elevation has a 2/2 sliding sash window without cill to the centre. The right gable has an infilled opening, now rendered over and only visible from inside.

The outbuilding opposite the house is two storeys with a one storey outbuilding abutting its left gable. It has a pitched natural slate roof with tiled skews and lime-rendered granite rubble walls. The principal elevation faces north. At the left end is a window opening with the remains of a metal frame. Set slightly left of centre is a door opening with concrete block jambs and a timber lintel. To the right is an original doorway with a timber head. To the upper level is a loading door opening set to centre. The rear elevation walls are unrendered, with two small ventilation openings to the lower level. Set right of centre on the first floor are the remains of a panelled timber loading door. The right gable is abutted by a small single storey outbuilding, which is ruinous and of no interest.

The one storey outbuilding to the left gable of the main two-storey building has a front (north) face with a wide opening with timber lintel at the extreme right end. Its left gable is blank. The rear elevation has a tongue and groove sheeted door with timber lintel to the left. The right elevation is the gable of the main block.

The house is enclosed to the road by a random rubble stone wall with field stone coping. A pair of wet dashed, square-in-section gate piers with pyramrical concrete caps supports a wrought-iron gate consisting of five horizontal bars, a central vertical one and two diagonal bars, all with twisted tops.

The building does not appear on the 1835 Ordnance Survey map but is first depicted on the 1861 edition, indicating a 19th century date of construction between 1840 and 1859.
