Belvedere, Ballintemple, Newry, Co. Armagh

This is a castellated granite belvedere situated on a scenic site overlooking the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Constructed between 1820 and 1839, the belvedere is a ruinous, square structure located north of Camlough Wood. The walls are built from rubble granite and retain remnants of a castellated parapet. The principal, south-facing elevation features a datestone inscribed ‘AD/1839’. It has a door opening on the right side, with a window to its left, and a further window above to the first floor. Each of the remaining elevations, one of which has partially collapsed, contains a single window on each floor. The belvedere first appears on the 1861 Ordnance Survey map. A similar belvedere is located within the Fathom Park Demesne (HB16/13/029). The structure is currently used as a garden feature and is recorded as derelict.
