Description

The building is a single-storey, two-bay vernacular farmhouse situated up a lane from New Bridge on the south bank of the river, in the townland of Ballynanny. It dates from between 1800 and 1819. The house is shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834.

The principal, north-facing facade features a lean-to porch on the right side of the left bay, with a roof that catslides from the main roof and walls in a similar style. A tongue-and-groove (t+g) sheeted door, complete with a cottage latch and half-door, is centrally positioned. The cheeks of the door are blank. There are single 2/2 sliding sash windows in each bay, each with concrete cills and sheeted over. The west gable of the house has a single-storey outhouse abutting it, which is the same height and width as the main block. The outhouse has a pitched corrugated iron roof with rendered skews and two openings to the north facade: a small window to the left and a t+g sheeted door to the right. The left gable of the outbuilding is blank, while the rear wall is detailed as a facade. The outhouse wall is set back slightly from the house wall and is blank. The rear of the house has two 1/1 sliding sash windows in each bay, both sheeted over and without cills.

The east gable of the main block is abutted by a lower single-storey, one-bay outhouse with a corrugated asbestos roof, a single sheeted timber door to the front, and a small vent window to the rear; the east gable of this outhouse is blank, as is the exposed section of the main gable. A further one-storey outbuilding, partially built into the bank, is located to the rear right of the house, with a pitched corrugated asbestos roof and rendered rubble walls, and a door to the front.

The main building has an artificial slate roof, a cement-rendered chimney with projecting coping to each gable (the left gable chimney having two pots), and wet lime-dashed and painted walls. It lacks rainwater goods. While now possessing few features of architectural or historical interest, the building retains vernacular characteristics.
