Cottage SW of Bernish Bridge, Seavers Road, Newry, Co Armagh

This is a single-story vernacular dwelling located southwest of Bernish Bridge on Seavers Road, Newry, County Armagh, within the townland of Ballymacdermot. Although a building was marked on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, the current house dates to 1921, as recorded in the Valuation Revision book which described it as a “small one bay cabin and small office”.

The house is aligned northwest-southeast, perpendicular to the road. It has a pitched roof covered in natural slate, with a modern textured red brick chimney on each gable. Half-round plastic rainwater goods are fitted, with a downpipe on the northeast-facing façade. The walls are wet-dashed, with a painted cement-rendered base course. A windbreak porch with a pitched natural slate roof and timber bargeboards is positioned centrally on the façade; it has a door clad in tongue-and-groove (t+g) sheeted timber, with blank cheeks to either side. To either side of the porch are top-hung 2/2 timber casement windows, each fitted with external timber shutters. The left and right gables are blank. A window, matching those on the façade, is set to the left of the rear elevation.

The building has undergone extensive refurbishment and is considered to be of little historic interest.
