Mossdale, 27 Scrogg Road, Dunnaman, Kilkeel, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4EF

Mossdale is a two-storey, three-bay house situated on the west side of Scrogg Road in Dunnaman, Kilkeel. It dates from approximately 1820 to 1839. The house has been extensively remodelled and, as such, retains no original features of architectural or historic interest.

The building is aligned north-south and has a pitched roof covered with concrete pantiles. Painted timber barge and eaves boards are present. Two pebbledashed chimneys with concrete copings are located on either side of the central bay. Modern plastic rainwater goods are fitted. The walls are pebbledashed, with smooth bands accentuating the corners. A modern, flat-roofed, glazed timber porch shelters a modern stained timber front door, which is centrally positioned. Ground-floor windows are located in each bay; one to the left and one to the right, and matching windows are positioned above them. All these openings are enlarged originals, feature concrete cills, and contain stained timber fixed windows with transoms over. The gables are blank. The rear of the building has undergone similar alterations.

An older building is depicted at this location on the 1834 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map. Historical records indicate that this building was originally a two-storey, three-bay house with a harled and whitened exterior, a slated roof, and three chimneys. It featured a gabled porch with a modern door, flanked by unrecessed twelve-pane sash windows on both the upper and ground floors.
