Description
Three storey (+attic) two bay house, right of a pair (other no. 40 - HB16/25/026A) on west side of Canal Street. Pitched artificial slate roof with corbelled oversailing eaves and a modern red brick chimney with three pots, to left gable. Semicircular plastic and metal rainwater goods (flow to adjacent property). Left bay is double width of right. East elevation (façade) is lined render with painted basecourse and bootscraper in niche to left of front door. Main entrance is at ground floor right and consists of a modern multi-panelled stained timber with a glazed transom light over. All windows to facade are 2/2 painted timber (vertically divided) sliding sashes with horns and painted granite cills. At ground floor left are two windows. There are three equally spaced windows to each upper floor. All in line with ground floor openings, with those to second floor diminished in height. South (no.40) and north (no.44) gables form party walls with adjacent property. Rear elevation is cement rendered and abutted to ground floor left by a modern extension, remaining ground floor not inspected. All windows to rear are modern fixed timber with top hung transoms and granite cills. There is one to first floor left, one to right between first and second floors, one to second floor left and one (diminished in height) between second floor and attic. Extension has a flat felted roof, wet dashed walls and a large modern timber window on rear wall.
