Lodge to Maryvale, 28 Carnacally Road, Carnacally, Newry, Co Down, BT34 1LS

The gate lodge, located on the south side of Carnacally Road in the townland of Carnacally, Newry, was demolished in the late 1970s. It faced north, opposite the main gates of Maryvale, which are referenced as HB16/14/018A. The associated gate screen, HB16/14/018B, remains. Not depicted on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map, it appeared on the 1859 map opposite the main entrance to Maryvale. The 1862 Griffith Valuation explicitly identified it as a gate lodge. Based on these sources, the lodge likely dates from the mid-19th century, specifically between 1840 and 1859. The building was a single-storey structure with a harled and whitewashed exterior, a slated roof, and a modern brick chimney. It featured a projecting gabled porch with a sheeted door, a lozenge-pane rectangular fanlight, and carved bargeboards. Lozenge-decorated windows were flanked either side of the porch, and there were sixteen-paned windows in the gables. Carved fascia and bargeboards were also present. According to the Historic Monuments and Buildings Board (HMBB) survey records from 1972 and 1973, the chimney was centrally positioned on the ridge of the roof, which had overhanging eaves with plain bargeboards. The lodge was accompanied by a pair of gate pillars that were part of the overall layout.
