Bridge over Leitrim River, Leitrim Rd, Hilltown, Newry, Co Down, BT34

The bridge over the Leitrim River carries a minor road and dates to the mid-19th century, likely between 1840 and 1859. A wooden bridge previously existed at this location, recorded on an 1834 Ordnance Survey map. The bridge is constructed of random rubble schist and granite, with dressed voussoirs forming the segmental arch. Squared granite rubble defines the abutment quoins and parapets. A metal pipe passes under the arch's soffit. The wing walls curve slightly at each end. A section of the downstream parapet has been reconstructed using concrete blocks. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest.
