Fountain on, Glenarm Road, Carncastle, Larne, Co. Antrim

The water fountain dates to between 1920 and 1939. It is of industrial archaeological interest. The fountain consists of a plain, fluted column topped with a fluted cap and an acorn finial. It was likely made by Glenfield and Kennedy, and probably installed alongside similar fountains on the Coast Road in Ballygalley. The fountain was originally located on the side of the Glenarm Road near its junction with the Ballygalley Road, but has since been moved to a new position in the centre of the village green. It was not shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1903 or 1930. Further details are provided in Fred Hammond's 1997 report, ‘Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey,’ reference no. 53. It has lost some of its historical significance due to its removal from its original location.
