Threshing Mill at Port Pier Farm, 92 Coast Road, Drains Bay, Larne, Co Antrim

The Threshing Mill at Port Pier Farm is a plain, two-story building likely dating from between 1840 and 1859. While its architectural interest is limited, it is notable for retaining its original high-breastshot waterwheel, which measures 4.25 metres (14 feet) in diameter. The building is constructed of rubble stone, partially harled and whitened, with a red brick chimney to one gable and red brick dressings at some openings. It has vertically hung timber sash windows to the front and is roofed with a combination of corrugated asbestos and modern asbestos slates. A smaller building is indicated on an Ordnance Survey map from 1857 at approximately the same location as the current structure, however, this makes a precise construction date inconclusive. The mill appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1903; it stands on a corner site in a rural coastal location, set back from the Coast Road. A modern bungalow now occupies the site of the original 19th-century farmhouse. The building is currently in use as outbuildings. It possesses industrial archaeological interest.
