Description

This is a late 19th century terrace building located in Ballycastle, County Antrim. It is a three-bay, two-and-a-half-story building with a basement, incorporating a shopfront and living accommodation above.

The ground floor features a four-panel door with a rectangular fanlight leading to the living accommodation, and a large shop window divided into six panes. To the shop's side is a four-panel door with the top two panels glazed, also with a rectangular fanlight. A decorative name fascia, exhibiting good painted lettering, cornices, and decorative stopends, extends over both doors and windows. Thin pilasters flank the doors and window. A smaller, plain name fascia sits above the second shop window. The first floor features three evenly spaced double-hung sliding sash windows, centered on the elevation, with plain plaster architraves, keystones, and bases. A continuous band runs across the façade in place of individual cills, and a deeper frieze band sits beneath the metal gutter. The roof is natural slate, with three rooflights. The walls are smooth, lined, and painted render. A plinth is present. The rear of the building includes a two-story back return with a single modern window at the first floor. The rear walls have a roughcast render finish and are painted, topped with a natural slate roof and two rooflights. The building maintains the street line with Ann Street, but is slightly lower than number 37.

The building was likely erected in the 1880s. A rear extension was added, and the shop extended into a former coach arch in 1994. A gateway was lost during these alterations. The building is located within a conservation area but has been delisted from further protection.
