Vacant Cottage, 749 Glenshane Road, Rallagh, Dungiven, Co Londonderry

This is an early 19th century cottage, originally built as part of the rectory estate to serve as a tenant’s dwelling. The two-story house has an entrance front that is three bays wide, featuring a central square-headed door and vertically proportioned windows on either side. Two gabled dormers are positioned above the main roofline. A low-pitched, lean-to extension is situated to the side of the house, incorporating a modern window. The roof is slated with natural slates and includes a central chimney stack. A vertically proportioned window sits on the gable above the lean-to. The rear elevation features two ground floor and two first floor windows, while the other gable is blank. All windows and doors are currently boarded up. The walls are smooth rendered. The cottage is located on a laneway leading from the Glenshane Road and sits on the west side of the grounds of the former rectory. The building appears on the 1830 Ordnance Survey map and may be contemporary with the rectory.
