Description
Mid-terrace three-storey rendered house, built circa 1924. Rectangular on plan facing north, built as one of four identical houses on the south side of Park Road by McIntyre Brothers contractors, first appearing on the fifth edition Ordnance Survey map of 1931.
The house features a pitched natural slate roof with roll-moulded terracotta ridge tiles and shared redbrick chimneystacks to either end. The walls are finished in painted rough-cast render. Square-headed window openings with rendered surrounds and masonry sills contain replacement single-pane timber sash windows with ogee horns. The front elevation is two windows wide, with a three-sided canted bay window to the ground floor containing replacement timber casement windows with original leaded coloured glass overlights.
The off-centre square-headed door opening retains its original double-leaf flat-panelled timber doors and rectangular overlight, sheltered beneath a three-centred arched concrete canopy supported on concrete brackets. The door opens onto a stone step to a bitumac footpath.
The rear elevation is redbrick and abutted by a modern gable-ended two-storey redbrick return. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills contain replacement timber sash windows. Plastic guttering is fitted to the timber fascia.
The house forms part of a terrace of four similar houses lining the south side of Park Road. Originally named Cunninghill, the house was first occupied by J N Brodie, an electrical engineer, who remained resident until 1928. It has since undergone extensive renovation and extension with considerable loss of original fabric. The property is not of sufficient architectural or historic interest to warrant listing.
