Description

Three storey building built c.1885 in red brick with curved return into Lower Garfield Street, corner turret, tall slender chimneys and irregularly spaced gable dormers. Main ground floor has a well preserved pub frontage with the monogram JD (for John Donnelly who founded The Deer’s Head pub here after the development of Garfield Street c.1885) on a red sandstone escutcheon, and door heads with drapes and vines below scrolled broken pediments. Stone balcony on three corbels at corner of second floor; plain sash windows; small arches break through parapet for rainwater.
