Edenderry Factory, Lurgan road, Banbridge, Co. Down, BT32 4LY

The Edenderry Factory was a three-storey blackstone linen factory with sheds, located on the Lurgan Road, Banbridge, County Down. Originally built before 1861 and extended later, the factory was demolished and replaced with a modern housing development. The factory was constructed of blackstone with brick arches and dressings, and originally measured approximately 400 feet by 200 feet overall. Thomas Ferguson opened a factory at Edenderry in 1866, acquiring the premises from W.A. Stewart, a thread manufacturer who had been operating there since 1850. Two smaller buildings adjacent to the river were depicted on an Ordnance Survey map of 1861, and a building measuring 100 feet by 27 feet, marked ‘Linen Manufactory’, was shown at the corner of the present site. An industrial archaeology survey from 1969 notes that the factory was still producing linen at that time. The site has not been formally listed and does not hold architectural or historical significance. This is a partial survey record only.
