Description

A three-storey blackstone linen factory with sheds, now demolished and replaced with a modern housing development. The First Survey card records: ‘Pre 1861 and later. 2 storey & sheds, still producing linen. Blackstone with brick arches & dressings. 400’ x 200’ O/A Thos. Ferguson opened a factory at Edenderry in 1866, in premises acquired from W.A.Stewart, who was a thread manufacturer in 1850. 2 smaller buildings beside river are shown on O.S. Map of 1861. Building 100’ X 27’ shown at corner of present building and marked ‘Linen Manufactory’ Industrial Archaeology of Co. Down E.B.R.Green Date of visit: 16th September 1969’
