Description

A three-storey former nineteenth century brewery of rubble stone with brick dressed openings, located on Castlewellan Road, Banbridge. The building has been demolished to make way for a supermarket. The First Survey card records: ‘‘1840. 3 storey. Slated roof. Blackstone walls with brick dressings, 2 pediments (central has brick lozenge inset) to main façade. Dressed quoins to angles. 30' wide buildings are set around 3 sides of courtyard 153 x 117' incorporates a dwelling house. Poor condition. Built by Johnstons of Lurgan as a brewery, converted to bleach works by Malcomsons, successively used as military depot, shoe factory, & at present for poultry. S. side now demolished.
