Former Methodist Church, Ballymagerny Road, Loughgall, Co Armagh

This is an early 19th century former Methodist Church, likely built between 1820 and 1839, situated on the Ballymagerny Road in Loughgall, County Armagh. The building is recorded on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834. It stands in a rural location facing the public road, set back slightly with a tarmac area forming a front apron and paths along the sides, bordered by hedges.

The church is a small gabled building. The main entrance, facing north-west, features a rectangular doorway with modern timber panelled doors, set into a smooth rendered facade with white painted walls and rendered quoins. The side elevations feature Gothic arched windows with modern small-paned PVC fixed lights and top-hung vents, each set within raised smooth rendered surrounds above a traceried head. The roof is slated, and the rainwater goods are of PVC. A blind rear elevation incorporates a projecting modern lean-to addition constructed of concrete blockwork with a corrugated iron roof.

The original building was described in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of 1835-8 as a plain stone building, originally roughcast, whitewashed, and thatched, measuring 42 and a half feet long and 22 and a half feet broad. The interior was very plain, with a mud floor and no pews or ceiling, and at that time there was no resident minister. The building has been modernised progressively during the 19th and 20th centuries, with many inappropriate alterations. The church remains in use as a church and is owned by a church organization.
