Black Castle, 54 Banbridge Road, Banbridge, Co Down, BT66 7QD

Black Castle was a former square tower built of blackstone and brick, with a one-and-a-half-storey house attached to its front. It was located at Knocknagore Townland, County Down. This structure has since been demolished and replaced by a modern bungalow. The First Survey records that the tower, dating before 1833, had a one-and-a-half storey rendered house with carved bargeboards to the roof, and a harled and whitened cottage at the rear. The tower’s openings were square-headed, pointed, or circular. The building was noted to be in poor condition and appeared on an Ordnance Survey map of 1833, labelled "Black Castle (in ruins)." An Ordnance Survey map from 1860 also referred to it as "Black Castle (in ruins)." A survey was conducted on 21 December 1972. The building is not listed, possesses no architectural or historical interest, and the survey was only partial.
