Derryola Bridge, Derryola Bridge Road, Aghalee, BT67 0DJ

Derryola Bridge, located at the junction of Derryola Bridge Road and George’s Island Road, approximately 3km west of the hamlet of Lower Ballinderry, is a single-span stone bridge likely constructed around 1820. The bridge carries a road over the Selshan Drain, a drainage channel that runs from the southeast of the bridge to Lough Neagh in the west. The Selshan Drain was probably created following a report by engineer Thomas Townsend in 1813, which proposed drainage for the boggy and inundated land surrounding Lough Neagh.

The bridge is built of semi-coursed squared rubble stone and features a relatively small semicircular arch with rock-faced voussoirs. The north ends of the bridge's parapets have been rebuilt using a contrasting stone and now incorporate concrete coping. Derryola Bridge holds architectural and historical interest as a local example of a small-arched bridge situated within the flat rural landscape surrounding Lough Neagh. It is of industrial archaeological interest and represents a period of significant land management and drainage works in the area. The bridge's age, construction, and local significance contribute to its listed status. The OS map of 1832 displays both the Selshan Drain and Derryola Bridge.
