Bridge on Boghead Bridge Road, Aghalee, BT67 0EF

Boghead Bridge, located on Boghead Bridge Road approximately 2.5km west of Lower Ballinderry, is a single-span stone bridge dating to between 1832 and 1857. It carries a road over a drainage channel, and the bridge’s construction coincided with the cutting of that drainage channel. The bridge exhibits a semi-formal appearance and is built of squared semi-coursed rubble, featuring a segmental arch with roughly dressed voussoirs and a string course. The parapets have roughly-fashioned square end piers and equally roughly-fashioned upright stone coping. The underside of the arch appears to have been covered in sprayed concrete. The bridge is shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1832, 1857 and 1900-01, and derives its name from a nearby plot of land, which was also named Boghead on the 1832 Ordnance Survey map. The bridge is of local interest and holds industrial archaeological significance due to its association with the drainage channel.
