Description
This is a relatively plain, one-and-a-half-storey house likely constructed in the late 19th century. It is situated on the southwest side of the Moneyreagh Road, approximately one and a half miles north of Ballygowan.
The front (northeast) elevation features a centrally positioned PVC door with a plain fanlight. To the left and right of the door are windows with PVC frames, each with a label moulding above. The northwest gable has two attic windows with PVC frames, and the southeast gable has two similar windows, along with a small fixed light window on the first floor. The southeast gable merges with a long, flat-roofed, single-storey rear return, featuring large window openings. A modern, flat-roofed extension covers the ground floor at the rear, incorporating a door and two large windows that connect with the long rear return; its northwest face has further modern openings. A small window is located at attic level on the rear of the main house.
The original house is finished with lined render, chamfered quoins, and a base course; it has an eaves course and rendered parapets. The roof is covered in Bangor blue slates with red clay ridge tiles and four yellow brick chimney stacks. The windows and rainwater goods are PVC. The rear extensions are mainly finished in rough cast. The extension immediately behind the house, although now modern-looking, may have been added in the early 20th century.
Buildings are depicted on an Ordnance Survey map from 1858 on this general site, though it’s difficult to determine an exact match to the current house. The relatively thin walls suggest a brick construction, consistent with the label moulding, yellow brick chimneys, red clay ridge tiles, and a likely date of the late 19th or early 20th century.
