Description
A small road bridge, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839, carries the Belfast Road over a former mill race approximately one mile north of Ballygowan. Built of random rubble, the bridge features a single, small semicircular arch. The western face appears largely original and has a low parapet at the roadside, while the eastern face has undergone partial reconstruction using new random rubble, resulting in a taller parapet with "spiky" rubble coping. The bridge is shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1858, serving a corn mill located near Knockmasham. This bridge has particular interest as an example of industrial archaeology. One face of the bridge has been sympathetically repaired.
