The site represents the former location of a single-storey vernacular building, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839. It was situated on the west side of Old Ballygowan Road, approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Comber. The original building, which appears to have contained two dwellings, was demolished around 1983/4 following a fire and has been replaced by a larger, modern house.

A survey from 1973 described the original building as a single-storey block with a slated roof, gable ends, rendered and painted walls, and brick chimneys. It had four windows with horizontal astragals, two doorways positioned between the third and fourth windows, and doors fitted with half-doors. The property was approximately 42 feet long and was in fair condition.

The site was depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1858, displaying a similar plan to that of the demolished building. The building was not included in the first valuation survey of 1834, likely because its assessed value was low. The land surrounding the property was leased by a Robert Patton from Johnston of Fort Breda, the owner of Ballynichol townland. Details of the building’s appearance around 1863 are uncertain due to the likely absence of the map accompanying the second valuation survey.
